Hempcrete Yoga Studio, Margents Farm - Article on the Flat House by Practice Architecture
Prefabricated Hempcrete panel system designed by Will Stanwix
The attached article from the Guardian describes hempcrete buildings at Margents Farm, Cambridgeshire. Graham Durrant and I helped Will Stanwix to complete the Yoga Studio seen in this article. Slightly disappointed the article chose not to credit Will Stanwix for the design of the prefab hempcrete panels which were used for the main house. The client, Steve Barron, wanted the hempcrete panels exposed internally, so the hempcrete has been simply sealed with a clay slip instead of plaster. This has some benefits and disadvantages. The unplastered hempcrete walls create truly incredible and peaceful internal acoustics, however the exposed hempcrete can lead to some dust. We were really impressed with the corrugated hemp fibre panels, but we would like to see some more testing for weather resistance and longevity before we get too excited.
